Before the end of Fall 2017, TBSI held a Year-End event on December 8th by having a poster session at TBSI office downtown Berkeley and hosting a dinner at Agrodolce Osteria.

The Poster Session is to exchange and share the research of TBSI among TBSI members, with other departments and learn from each other. Poster presenters started with a 2-mintue pitch talk followed by individual presentation at their own posters.

Among 22 posters presented, 4 posters were selected based on the outstanding performance-- First place: Malav Desai (Protein-Based Flexible adhesives), Second place: Salar Fattahi (Near-Global Solution of Non-convex Problems: From Power Systems to Control Theory) and Fangyuan Zhao (Enercoin-A Cryptocurrency On Blockchain For Tracking And Promoting Renewable Energy) and Third place: Yingcan Zhao (Antimicrobial Properties of MoS2Nanosheets and Potential Applications in Controlling Membrane Biofouling). TBSI was honored to have Carol Mimura, Assistant Vice Chancellor for IPIRA and Tsu-Jae King Liu, Vice Provost for Academic and Space Planning, to present the awards to the winners.

In addition, Tsinghua University Associate Dean Xiaofeng Wu and Director of External Relations Office Zhenyi Ma and other key members in Tsinghua also participated the event and they were welcomed by TBSI Co-Director Connie Chang-Hasnain and TBSI Co-Deputy Director Liwei Lin. Since TBSI has become the main program for international education in Tsinghua, Associate Dean Wu came here to discuss more about how TBSI and Tsinghua can develop further collaboration.

After Poster Session, all the guests and scholars were able to share delightful moment together at the dinner. Phil Kaminsky, Executive Associate Dean from College of Engineering and Fiona Doyle, Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate Division were able to share this wonderful time with all TBSI members.
